New students should arrive at the school office with their passport, copies of transcripts and immunization records, as well as current contact information to complete the registration process.

Placement tests will take place on each of these days at:

- 10:00 - Math (and ESL, only for students whose first language is not English) and

- 12:30 - English literature

Travel Information for Students

It is very important that the school is provided with full travel details for students arriving in Canada, including name of airline, airport departure date and time, expected arrival date and time and the correct terminal at Toronto Pearson International airport. Also provide details of any stopovers. Please forward this to us at least one week in advance of the flight in order that we have sufficient time to arrange airport pick up and home stay.

In addition, please let us know of any delays or changes to flight schedules that may occur en route. Drivers will not be able to remain at the airport indefinitely; the more accurate information you can provide, the better are we able to support arriving students.

For those parents who will be accompanying theirs wards to Canada, please find below links to some of the hotels closest to the school. We recommend that you book early as the demand for hotels is pretty high at this time of the year.

Staybridge Hotel and Suites:

Homewood Suites By Hilton:

Sheraton Hotel:

Hamilton Plaza:

Days Inn:

There is always the option of Airbnb if you are going to be here for more than one week; it is probably more cost effective, and use of the kitchen is likely to be available if you are renting the whole apartment. The website is:

Achieving Excellence in Education

Southern Ontario Collegiate is an international educational institution dedicated to further learning, intellectual inquiry and personal and scholastic development. The school is founded on acceptance of the principle of mutual respect for the rights of others and a readiness to support actively an environment conducive to intellectual growth, both for individual students and for the whole Collegiate at large.

The importance of completing a secondary education and SOC’s commitment to helping international students with this outcome:

The Ontario Ministry of Education asserts in “Achieving Excellence: A Renewed Vision for Education in Ontario”, that “vibrant communities and a prosperous society are built on the foundation of a strong education system”. Southern Ontario Collegiate strives to develop secondary school graduates who are not only successful at secondary school but who have learned the life skills to succeed at post-secondary school and indeed at life.

SOC’s goal is to ensure that international students are successful on all of these levels and will return to their home countries and become engaged citizens and economically productive. In alliance with the Ontario Ministry of Education, SOC strives to provide success for all international learners, and is committed to providing the life lessons that will result in the success of every student.

  • Students will be placed in the appropriate Grade according to their successful completion of the various levels of academic achievements in their home country.
  • Such achievement will inform the determination of their placement in the Ontario curriculum and the duration of their studies.
